Southgate was on target in the eighth minute as Boro kept up their unbeaten pre-season run. They were well in control throughout with Mark Wilson and Joseph-Desire Job both going close before Massimo Maccarone hit the post late in the game.
It was another good run-out for Boro but one worrying factor was the late withdrawl from the squad of Alen Boksic, who has been given a few extra days to build up his fitness, before he starts a match.
As long as this wxtra fitness does him some good through the season, the last thing we want to see is the Boksic of old. We need him up along-side Maccarone feeding off the skills of Juninho. Having two 15 goal-a-season strikers would be a great boost after the last couple of seasons.
