The former Portuguese international had his contract terminated by Boro earlier in the year, after he was tested positive for a banned substance.

Given an 18-month ban he appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and subsequently had his ban reduced to 12 months.

Their is no word as to whether Boro are considerering offering the 33-year-old a new contract, when his ban expires in October.

Sylvain Distin has pledged his future to Manchester City and ended speculation that he was going to join Boro.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate is still hopeful that there will be some new faces in the squad before the transfer window closes in a weeks time.
