Harewood has failed to command a regular first-team place under Martin O'Neill after signing from West Ham for b£4m in the summer of 2007.

Having sold James Beattie to Stoke City, Sheffield United want a class replacement, but Harewood wants to stay in the Premiership.

Agent, Phil Sproson: "Obviously that has come out of the fact that Sheffield United have sold James Beattie but Marlon won't go to Sheffield United.

"It is totally out of the question. He won't go to The Championship.

"We are not exploring [the possibility of leaving], there has been a little bit of interest from one or two others but he is in no rush to leave Villa. No [I don't expect him to leave in January].

"I know they [Boro] are after a striker.

"Marlon would certainly fit the bill I think with his pace and his goalscoring record at West Ham but again, I think Middlesbrough have enquired about a loan and Villa won't loan him, that's it really."

Villa want at least £2m for the striker.
