Villa Preview

The enforced change for manager Steve McClaren is in midfield where Paul Ince starts a two match ban which will also see him miss the FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal next week.

Alen Boksic is still struggling with a groin injury and is unlikely to start, so Noel Whelan will probably continue up front with Benito Carbone, who is looking forward to the arrival of one of his old clubs.

Boksic's absense could give new signing Michael Debeve an opportunity in midfield after the Frenchman impressed for the reserves during the week.

Colin Cooper makes a welcome return to the squad after the tragic death of his son back in February. Phil Stamp, Mark Hudson and Stuart Downing have also been included in the squad.

Mark Schwarzer could return in goal after recovering from a virus, Mark Crossley will again be disappointed to be left out after two impressive games.

Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu will also be relishing the visit of their former team, Southgate in particular after he received lots of abuse from Villa fans on Boro's trip to Villa Park earlier this season.

Southgate said "The reception I received from the supporters was a surprise but I think the old manager had a lot to do with that. I have no animosity to them, I had six fantastic years down there as far as I’m concerned."

"It was time for a change for me though and what pleased me most was the reception I got from the players down there. To a man they came up to me and shook my hand and spoke to me and that was touching."
