Sources close to Newcastle Unted-Mad claim the Magpies have not offered the Australian international a new deal, and will wave the option of another year on their books when his contract runs out in the summer.
Viduka has only made one start and four substitute appearances for Newcastle this season, but he returned to action as substitute in the 3-2 win at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
Reports suggest he would consider a move back to Middlesbrough for one last season in the Premiership before he retires to Australia.
Boro, we believe, could take up the option but only on a play-as-you-play deal, because of his history of long-term injuries.
