The transfer was initially blocked at the eleventh hour yesterday following reports that Gareth Southgate would be out of action for three months with a stress fracture of an ankle.

Further investigation has shown that Southgate's injury is not a stress fracture, so Boro are happy to let Ehiogu go. However, the Boro captain will still be missing for a couple of weeks as he rests his ankle.
