UEFA Cup: Boro almost there!

A goal in each half made sure that the points remained on Teesside in a 2-0 win over the Italian side Lazio.

Boro now head Group E with six points. It may be enough, but a point from their final two games would be guarantee their progress, two defeats could open the door for others.

The scenario for Boro to lose out, assuming Egaleo finish bottom, is as follows:

Boro must lose away to Villarreal and at home to Partizan
Lazio must win at home to Partizan and away to Egaleo
Villarreal must win at home to Boro and Egaleo, and lose away to Partizan Partizan must win at home to Villarreal and away to Boro

Any other combination of results will see Boro go through with six points.

But we need to go for a win in both our remaining games and finish as group winners. I am led to believe that as winners of the group we would be drawn against a team finishing third in another group, while the team finishing second would be drawn against a team dropping out of the Champions League.
