Malcolm Christie (leg) continues to struggle with no date fixed for his return, while other long term sufferers are getting close to a return. Tony McMahon (shoulder), Ray Parlour (knee) and Stewart Downing (knee) could be back in action by the end of the month.

Szilard Nemeth (hamstring) and Fabio Rochemback (calf) both have niggles that will keep them out for a couple of weeks, while George Boateng (ankle) could be out of action until the middle of February.

Franck Queudrue missed Mondays derby against Newcastle with a knee injury that he picked up late in the game against Manchester City. He will see a specialist soon, but could be out for upto eight weeks. Boro have recalled Andrew Taylor from Bradford as cover.

Yakubu played with a slight hip injury at Newcastle but has come through OK, however Chris Riggott broke his nose and received a dead leg in the game and is a doubt for Saturdays trip to Nuneaton.
