Transfer targets

Franck Queudrue was signed last week for £2.5m after his loan spell and Benito Carbone is still in negotiations with Boro after his loan spell. But Boro have continued to be linked with several players in the past week or two.

Muzzy Izzet - Boro continue to be linked with the Greek midfield international, a £6m bid has remained on the table, after Izzet's decision not to join Boro earlier this season, but now that the Foxes have been relegated he looks set to move on. (Reggie's verdict - snap him up)

Benni McCarthy - Boro failed in a £6.5m bid to sign the South African striker earlier in the season due to a work permit refusal but McCarthy has earned several caps since the refusal and Boro may try again. He has apparently had a superb loan spell with Porto this season. (Reggie's verdict - could be a useful aquistion but not sure about the cost)

Phil Neville - Surely we are not looking for another full-back but Boro have been linked with a £5m bid for the younger of the two Neville brothers. Defensively we have looked sound this season. (Reggie's verdict - leave alone)

Lee Hendrie - Boro have been linked with the Villa midfielder after he was reported to be unhappy at Villa Park, he only played a dozen or so games last season and is looking for more regular first team football. He would cost around £5m.

Giorgios Karagounis - Another midfield target of manager Steve McClaren but I think he will would be a third or fourth option to fill the midfield. His club Panathanaikos would be looking for around £3m (Reggie's verdict - not exactly a household name)

Emerson - It was reported I while ago that the ex-Boro schemer was close to joining the Mackem's but nothing came of it. If he were to return to the Premiership I am sure Boro would be in the running. (Reggie's verdict - can he still kick it?)

Markus Allback - The Swede could be available for a cut-price £2m, according to his agent. Has been playing in Holland for Heerenveen and is rumoured to be heading for Villa Park. (Reggie's verdict - got to be worth a chance if he doesn't go to Villa)

Nick Barmby - Has failed to command a first team spot at Anfield and has shown signs of unrest. Linked with Boro, Everton and Tottenham just because
he's played for them before. (Reggie's verdict - no move likely but could still do a good job in the Premiership)

The list continues and among it are a few names that don't exactly roll off the tongue, Romanian Alin Stoica from Anderlect, Croatian Davor Vugrinec from Lecce. Also Sasa Ilic and Vladimir Ivic, both Yugoslavian's from Partizan Belgrade.

Boro will continue to be linked with players from around Europe, and the World, but I'm not getting excited about any potential signing until I see them in a press conference with Steve McClaren and Keith Lamb by their side.
