It would appear that Boro have lost the race to sign last seasons loan player Geremi, who has opted for a £6.9m move to Chelsea. The attraction of Champions League football was obviously the winner, although Boro were not willing to pay the inlated transfer that 'Chelski' are paying.

It is also thought that another Boro target, Trevor Sinclair, has been lost to Manchester City. Sinclair who was linked with Newcastle last season prefering the rainswept North West to the bright lights of the North East.

Boro are currently close to agreeing a deal with Celta Vigo for the services of Doriva, who impressed during his short loan spell last season.

Another possible target in Flavio Conceicao from Real Madrid, he played more than 20 games for Madrid last season but has been told that his first team opportunities next season will be reduced with the signing of David Beckham.
Boro are thought to be negotiting a season long loan deal for the 28-year-old Brazilian.

Interest in Carlos Marinelli from Italian clubs Bari and Ancona give the 21-year-old Argentinian a glimmer of hope for his future. He was close to moving to Torino after a loan deal bu could not agree personal terms with the relegated Serie A side.

Finally, it has been reported that Alan Wright, freed by Aston Villa, turned down Boro after Rangers showed interest. In fact Wright was travelling to Teesside for talks when his agent informed him of Rangers' interest.
