Foremost in the news is Boro's link with Hungarian Zoltan Gera from West Brom. The 27-year-old midfielder could be on his way north for £3m or £2m plus a player exchange. He was left out of West Brom's FA Cup tie on Saturday, fuelling rumours that Boro asked his club to leave him out, so that he would not be cup-tied.

Alan Curbishley has allegedly dangled a £60k a week carrot in an attempt to prise Mark Viduka from the Riverside. It was rumoured recently that the ‘cash rich' East End club were lining up a bid in excess of £6m for Viduka, who is Curbishley's no.1 target.

Boro have also been linked with Hibs duo Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown, Christian Wilhelmsson from Nantes and Sulley Muntari from Udinese.

Abel Xavier will stay on Teesside for the rest of the season after attracting interest from several Premiership clubs while Fabio Rochemback is keen to get his career back on track with a move back to Sporting Lisbon.
