Top Award for Middlesbrough's 'Gate

The influential Boro captain picked up the Prince's Trust North East Player of the Year Award. He beat off competition from teammate Franck Queudrue, Alan Shearer and Shay Given from Newcastle and Julio Arca from Sunderland.

It wasn't the only award collected by the Boro party at Dunston's Federation Brewery. The Prince's Trust Award for Outstanding Contribution to North East Footbal was collected by Boro cheif executive Keith Lamb, on behalf of Boro chairman Steve Gibson.

Stewart Downing was named runner-up in the North East Young Player of the Year along with Hartlepool's Adam Boyd. Sunderlands Kevin Kyle won the award.

Finally, Mark Schwarzer was named runner-up in the North East Save of the Season, for his double save in the Carling Cup final, along with Newcastle's Shay Given. Jim Provett from Hartlepool was the winner of the award.
