Team news: Boro v Coventry

Downing is suffering from flu and is a major worry for Boro boss Steve McClaren. Adam Johnson will be standing by to fill the wide left position.

McClaren is definitely without Ugo Ehiogu, Franck Queudrue and James Morrison, while the game may also be too soon for Ray Parlour and George Boateng. Andrew Davies is cup tied having played in the 3rd round for Derby.

However, Chris Riggott, Fabio Rochemback and Brad Jones are all back in the squad and could return tonight. Also in with a chance of a return are Tony McMahon and Malcolm Christie, who both have a couple of Reserve games under their belts.

Jason Kennedy was withdrawn early from Monday's Reserve game, with tonight in mind, but he is likely to be on the bench. It's perm any two from four (or five with Christie) upfront, as the Boro boss juggles with his forwards.

Possible Boro team:
Schwarzer, Parnaby, Southgate, Riggott, Pogatetz, Mendieta, Cattermole, Doriva, Johnson, Yakubu, Hasselbaink
