Spaniards outclass Boro and youngsters lose at Whitby

Atletico Madrid who finished 11th in Spain last year got off to a great start at The Riverside. A goal after five minutes rocked the near 8,000 crowd and a second after 58 minutes virtually wrapped up the victory for the visitors, who looked sharper and fitter.

In the closing minutes Nemeth scored and gave Boro a chance of a draw and went on to hit the inside of the post. Considering he only had less than 20 minutes on the pitch and his two goals at Carlisle a week or so ago he seems to be the forward on form.

The best performances for Boro were probably Boateng, Nemeth and Bates 9a second half substitute for Ehiogu).

On another note the young side (plus Coops) sent to Whitby tonight lost 3-0 in the North Riding Senior Cup Final.

But hey things aren't all bad the Geordies were dumped out of the Intertoto, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Deportivo.
