The Sky Sports pundits believed that the challenge warranted a straight red but the Argentine was only booked as Boro were comprehensively beaten 3-0 at Craven Cottage.

Boro boss Southgate was quick to take a dig at the referee for giving Fulham a 'dodgy' penalty, but how Arca stayed on the pitch surprised many after his 'leg breaker tackle'.

Southgate: "I don't think there's any intent in either of them. But when you look at the pictures and you slow it down, they don't look good.

"So I can understand people's reaction to that. But I know the nature of our player and Julio isn't a malicious type at all. He wouldn't have wanted to cause any harm, that's for certain."
