Southgate Did Not Devalue Cup Competition!

Let's be honest here. Too many clubs put out a reserve side in the Carling Cup, and devalue the competition, yet Southgate had hopes to WIN the tie, and that can only be good for the game.

OK, it didn't happen ... but let's not point the finger of blame at the gaffer ... because he took the game seriously.

Southgate: "We had some momentum and we wanted to keep it going.

"If it had been a league game we would have come away with a point and a decent account of ourselves."
