The signatures will be added to a petition that is attempting to get the Middlesbrough born football legend a knighthood. In a weekend of activities there are also signing sessions in Nottingham, Derby and Hartlepool.

The campaign already has the backing of Match of the Day host Gary Lineker and managers Alan Curbishley and Mick McCarthy.

Cloughie was a legend on Teesside where he scored 204 goals in just 222 games, before he moved to Sunderland, where his career ended prematurely through injury.

He started his managerial career with Hartlepool before moving to Derby where he won the league title. After short spells at Brighton and Leeds he spent 18 years at Nottingham Forest, where he won an array of honours, including the league title and European Cup.

A worthy recipient of a knighthood if ever there was one. Give your backing to this campaign, arise Sir Brian.
