Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan has praised the contribution of midfielder Barry Robson to the club's late bid for a Championship play-off place.Robson, 31, arrived at the Riverside from Celtic in January, and Strachan believes the Scotland international has made himself popular with team-mates.

"I think players like playing with him; he's got the place in uproar, laughing and joking," Strachan told BBC Tees.

Ex-Celtic boss Strachan signed Robson for an undisclosed fee.

Boro's hopes of a play-off place are still alive thanks to Saturday's 1-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday. And with Swansea's defeat by Bristol City, the gap between the Teessiders and the top six is down to four points.

"We're still there," said Strachan. "We're not claiming to be the best team in this league, but our team spirit is keeping us in there."
