Another youthful side beat a much more experienced City side with goals from Lee Cattermole and David Wheater.

Colin Cooper apart, Boro started with a string of teenagers, including five 17-year-olds, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old. City included several players with first team experience, including Nedum Onuoha, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Stephen Jordan.

Without creating many clear-cut chances City dominated the first half but went in 1-0 down thanks to Cattermole's second goal of the season.

The second half was much of the same, but it was Boro who added to the scoresheet when Wheater headed home, with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Boro team:
Knight, Porritt, Grounds, Cattermole, Wheater, Cooper, Fisher (Franks), Langthorne (Thompson), Craddock, Burgess, Owens

Boro's Josh Walker was also in action last night as he captained England's U-17's, in a 1-0 victory over Turkey at Meadow Lane.
