Quid's in Jimmy

The wealth of Britain’s footballers has sent 21 of them into the sport’s rich list including Boro’s very own Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with £8 million.

The top 100 is made up mostly of chairmen, directors and managers but there has been a significant increase in the number of players on the list.

Only 9 made the list in 2003 and 13 last year so the impact of rocketing wages is there for all to see.

Leading the players is England captain David Beckham with £75 million, followed by Arsenal’s Dennis Bergkamp. The 2 players even managed to make it into the top half of the table at 32nd and 48th.

Not surprisingly, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is top of the pile with a £10 billion fortune.

The Russians nearest contender is Joe Lewis, who has stakes in both Tottenham Hotspur and Rangers, with £2 billion.

And in third place with £867 million Celtic’s largest shareholder Dermot Desmond.
