I don’t actually know the definitive answer, but it has been quoted this week that the Austrian’s ban, dished out by the Russian FA, is for domestic matches only, and does not include FIFA or UEFA matches.
If that is the case Pogatetz should be available for the UEFA Cup next month. The fact that he has been selected by Austria for a friendly next week would give this assumption some merit.
The 22-year-old was handed a 24 week ban by the Russian FA following his sending off for Spartak Moscow just days before he signed for Boro.
The player, and Boro, have been waiting for the outcome of an appeal made several weeks ago, but the result has not been forthcoming from the Russian FA.
Boro’s first game in the UEFA Cup is due to take place on Thursday 15th September, the draw being made later this month on Friday 26th August.
If anyone can confirm the conditions of his ban please let us know at mfc1986.co.uk or discuss it on the messageboard.
