Southgate explained: "We are delighted he signed a new deal because he is a promising young player.
"It is important for him, and the other young lads, to get games.
"He went to Derby for a spell but didn't get any football there.
"We wanted him to experience League football, and Oldham are having a good season so it's ideal for him.
"I'm pleased that the clubs outside the Premier League are allowed to do loan deals because it enables us to get our players out and get games when we feel they need them."
