Middlesbrough winger Andrew Halliday has played down comparisons with England's Adam Johnson following his May switch to the Riverside.Halliday, 18, is likely to play a part in filling the gap left by Johnson's move to Manchester City last season after joining from Livingston in May.
"I'm not going to sit here and say I'm the next Stewart Downing or Adam Johnson," Halliday told BBC Tees.
"I just want to do my own thing and improve on all aspects of my game."
Halliday's former club Livingston have become a well-respected source of young Scottish talent, having produced Leeds United midfielder Robert Snodgrass and West Bromwich Albion playmaker Graham Dorrans in recent seasons.
And the teenage wide-man believes his spell at Almondvale will prove beneficial to his development.
"It was a great experience, last year I really kicked on, it was a massive blow going from the First Division to the Third, but if we'd stayed First then I might not have had too many chances," Halliday added.
"Personally I think Livingston has one of the best youth set-ups in Scotland.
"Look at Graham Dorrans, look at Robert Snodgrass, James McPake, they've all had brilliant seasons and have shown they can step up.
"Hopefully I can do the same."
