The Teessiders were trailing 3-1 at the Riverside Stadium to former Boro striker Ayegbeni Yakubu's hat-trick, but eventually claimed a draw through Stephen McManus' injury-time header.
Mowbray told the club's official website, www.mfc.co.uk: "That's three successive home games [in which] we have come from behind to get something.
"It shows the fighting spirit we have at this football club. I'm proud and delighted with the way we fought back.
"The supporters expect that. This is a part of the country where hard work and industry are part of life.
"While I want to build a technical team, you have to have a side that put in the hard work and enjoys the physical nature of some
games and you can then play your football."
