Middlesbrough: Injury blow for Ugo

Last updated : 16 January 2005 By Reggie Holdsworth
The injury nightmare continues for Ugo after he suffered what is thought to be knee ligament problems.

Ugo's Boro career has been blighted by injury since New Years Day 2003 when he fractured a rib and punctured a lung at Blackburn. He returned for the last six or seven games of the season but picked up a knee ligament problem that was not properly diagnosed until the start of the 2003-04 season.

He sat out the first half of last season before returning to action just before Christmas, just in time to be a member of the historic team that won Boro's first trophy at Cardiff in February.

He started the first game this season but was soon on the injury table with a back injury, and later a calf injury, which kept him sidelined until last week against Notts County. He has started just two league games this season before today.

Boro may need to recall Andrew Davies back from his loan spell at QPR if the injury crisis does not improve this week. Chris Riggott should be back in traning this week following his knee injury, picked up in training last week.

Steve McClaren also revealed that Michael Reiziger has a suspected broken a toe, so he could be out for several weeks. Young Tony McMahon will be ready to step into the breach again.
