Middlesbrough: Don't forget your mobile

Boro fans are being asked by Middlesbrough Football Club to dig out their old mobile phones for recycling in a bid to raise funds for local charities.

Roary’s Recycling Charity Challenge aims to raise funds for Boro’s own Roary’s children’s fund and the clubs chosen charity, Teesside Hospice.

Middlesbrough Football Club is joining forces with Natural Partners Limited for the innovative scheme, which will be launched on the day of Boro’s Barclays Premiership home game with Liverpool on Saturday November 20.

Fans are being urged to leave their old mobile phones in recycling bins located in and around the stadium, the MFC Retail stores at the Riverside and in Captain Cook Square and Middlesbrough Football Community Centre in Eston. For each phone recycled a sum of cash will be donated to the chosen charities.

Terry Tasker, Boro’s Operations Manager, said: “This is an innovative scheme that we were keen to become involved in. Not only is it a great example of recycling in action but a fantastic opportunity to boost worthy causes.

“We would ask supporters to dig out their old mobile phones and bring them in to make the scheme a big success. The bins will be available to drop the phones in on an ongoing basis.”

Whilst Boro are the first Premier League football club to take part in the scheme, if successful it is hoped that it will be rolled out across the country in future.

Paul Morgan, of Natural Partners Limited, added: “Studies have shown that there are millions of unused mobile phones in homes throughout the UK, most of which will never be used again. If we can tap in to even a small amount of those it’s clear we can raise a lot of money for charity.”
