Rennie started refereeing in 1979 and progressed to the Football League list in 1997 and has refereed over 100 Premier League games.

Last season he was in charge of two Boro games, both at the Riverside. In the games against Coventry in the Carling Cup (won 3-0) and Southampton in the Premier League (lost 3-1) he did not book a single player.

In total last season he refereed in 31 games, showing the yellow card 64 times and the red card twice.

To date this season he has officiated in 4 games, booking just two players. This is his first Premier League game of the season.
