Mike is now a regular referee in the Premiership having started on the Football League list in 1997. He was appointed to the Premier League list in 2000 and has refereed over 80 Premier League matches to date.

He was appointed to the UEFA list in 2003 and has officiated in a number of European and international matches.

He was the referee for the Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester United in 2004 and also refereed the FA Trophy Final in the same year.

In total last season he officiated in 24 games dishing out 66 yellow and 7 red cards. He was the referee for Boro’s home game against Crystal Palace last season, when he booked 3 players in Boro’s 2-1 win.

This is his first outing of the new season.
