Meet the referee: Steaua Bucharest v Boro

Monsieur Hamer takes charge of his second Boro game in this years UEFA Cup campaign, having been the referee for the memorable victory in Stuttgart in the Round of 32.

Back in February he booked four players during the game, two from each side. Andrew Davies and Emanuel Pogatetz were the two booked for Boro.

He has been on the FIFA list since 1993 and has a host of UEFA games and international games under his belt, including two England World Cup qualifiers against Albania (2001) and Azerbaijan (2004).

The 40-year-old was at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina and he was also at EURO 2004 in Portugal. The French, English and German speaking referee could be selected as one of the referees for this summers World Cup in Germany.

His assistants are once again Francis Crelo (Luxembourg) and Jean-Philippe Izzo (France), while the fourth official is Stephane Lannoy (France).
