At 46-years-old Mr Walton is one of the older referees on todays circuit. He started refereeing in the Football League in 1998 and after officiating in the 2003 LDV Vans Trophy Final he was promoted to the Premier League List.

Last season he officiated in 31 games, producing the yellow card 87 times and the red card only twice.

This season he has officiated in 12 games, making 44 bookings and sending off three players. Only one of his games this season has been in the Premier League.

The assisstant referees are Glenn Turner (Derbyshire) and Ceri Richards (Carmarthanshire), the fourth official is Howard Webb (Yorkshire).
