McClaren leaves England post

The announcement comes in the wake of Adam Crozier's resignation as Chief Executive of the FA, but will not be a shock to those in the know.

McClaren said: "I have decided to step down from my role to concentrate fully on the affairs of Middlesbrough Football Club. This is purely my own decision. Indeed, it is a decision I have been considering for some time as my role with Middlesbrough - which must, of course, be my first priority - has taken up more time."

He continued "I leave the post on the best of terms with everyone involved in the England set-up. It was a privilege to occupy the role. I actually told Adam of my intention to step down earlier this week. Sven has known for some time too, as I spoke to him after England's game with Macedonia."

The Boro boss did raise his concerns over the two week break for international duties recently which resulted in Boro faultering at Charlton, this could of had some bearing on his decision.

It's a shame that Boro have now lost that connection with the national team but at least we now know that he is commited to the Boro cause. We will still, hopefully, have England representitives in the shape of Gareth Southgate and/or Ugo Ehiogu.
