Louis van Gaal enters race for Boro job

With Martin O'Neill running out of time a new name has emerged in the race for the vacant managers job at Boro.

It is understood that Steve Gibson has given O'Neill a deadline to accept the position by the end of today.

If he rejects the offer, as did Terry Venables, the English press have Alan Curbishley next in line, but we have it on good authority that van Gaal will take the post.

Rumours that George Boateng is about to sign a new contract could suggest that the Boat is happy that a Dutchman will be taking the helm.

Currently in charge of AZ Alkmaar, he has enjoyed success at Ajax and Barcelona but failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2002 with the Dutch national squad.
