Liverpool v Middlesbrough: team news

Last updated : 10 November 2004 By Reggie Holdsworth
Boro boss Steve McClaren has added several youngsters to the squad and will rest a number of first team regulars. I would anticipate a side similar to the one that beat Coventry in the last round.

That could mean another start for Carlo Nash in goal, while Andrew Davies, Colin Cooper, Doriva, Joseph Desire Job and James Morrison could also start.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Mark Viduka, George Boateng, Gareth Southgate and Mark Schwarzer are likley to be rested, but could feature on the bench.

Boro team from:
Schwarzer, Queudrue, Southgate, Cooper, Boateng, Zenden, Parlour, Downing, Viduka, Hasselbaink, Job, Riggott, Doriva, McMahon, Graham, Morrison, Wilson, Davies, Wheater, Peacock, Nash.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has also drafted in a number of youngsters, including Neil Mellor and Stephen Warnock, who will take part, while he plans to rest Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia and Dietmar Hamann.

Liverpool team from:
Kirkland, Josemi, Carragher, Hyypia, Traore, Kewell, Garcia, Alonso, Hamann, Biscan, Diao, Riise, Baros, Sinama-Pongolle, Mellor, Warnock, Dudek, Finnan, Henchoz.

As a mark of respect there will be a minutes silence before the kick-off, in memory of the great Liverpool and England captain Emlyn Hughes, who sadly died yesterday aged 57.

Our condolences go out to all his family, friends and fans of Liverpool Football Club.
