There were reports that Boro had increased their offer for Adam, a player Strachan has tracked throughout the transfer window.
Boro had a £2m deal for Adam turned down last week but may have to go up towards £3m if they wanted to tempt the Seasiders to sell their star asset.
It’s not clear where this money would come from, unless Boro capitulated in their resolve to hang on to Adam Johnson.
