The Italian, who was introduced by Bill Beswick and Steve Harrison, spoke of his decision to join Boro by saying "It was not a very difficult decision to make, this is a very well known club in Italy, Ravanelli, Carbone, Boksic, Festa all are well known and I am happy to be the next one in that list. My message to the fans is simple, I will try to do my best and hope everything goes well."

The £8.15m signing from Empoli pledged that he would follow in Ravanelli's footsteps and become a prolific goalscorer. "I know Ravanelli did very well over here and I will to try beat his record at Boro,'' he said.

He was also excited at the prospect of playing with Juninho, if he signs, saying "I am looking forward to playing with Juninho if he comes, he is a brilliant player and I would like to play with him. Of course, that's up to the club, because as far as I know he hasn't signed."
