Szilard Nemeth played all but the last 8 minutes of Slovakia's 0-0 draw with Russia in Bratislava. It was enough for the Slovakian's to qualify for a play-off place ahead of the Russians.

Emanuel Pogatetz had a game to forget, after reurning from suspension he was sent off in Austria's 2-0 win over Northern Ireland in Vienna. Pogatetz reacted to a nasty challenge from Damien Johnson and was dismissed for violent conduct. Johnson was also dismissed.

George Boateng was not involved again, as the Dutch consolidated their place at the top of group 1, with a draw against Macedonia in Amsterdam.

Of interest to Mark Viduka and Mark Schwarzer, Uruguay took the the play-off spot in the South American qualifying group, by beating Agentina 1-0 in Montevideo.

The Socceroos will now play Uruguay in a play-off, for a place in the finals next year. It was Uruguay that scuppered the Aussies hopes of going to the last World Cup, in a similar play-off.

David Wheater and Adam Johnson both played the full 90 minutes for England U-19's, as they finished the UEFA Friendly Tournament in Poland, with a 2-1 defeat against Poland 'B'.

Midway through the second half, with the scores tied at 1-1, Johnson had a free-kick tipped over the bar, but the Poles grabbed the winner with 15 minutes remaining.
