Goal Celebration Tune

Middlesbrough FC supporters are being given the chance to choose Boro’s new goal celebration music through a unique poll.

Hundreds of Boro fans initially responded to the club’s call for suggestions and now supporters have the opportunity to vote for their favourite from a list of four nominated tunes.

The tune receiving the most votes will be unveiled as Boro’s new goal celebration music, hopefully making its debut with the club’s first ever European goal against Banik Ostrava at the Riverside next Thursday night (September 16).

The four nominated tunes, that were all originally suggested by fans, are Woo Hoo by the 5, 6, 7, 8’s, Eat My Goal by Collapsed Lung, Jump Around by House of Pain and Because We Can by Fatboy Slim.

From 12 midday on Saturday, fans could take part in the vote via e-mail or in writing. E-mails, titled Goal Music Vote and including choice of music from the four nominations, name, address and daytime telephone number, can be sent to enquiries@mfc.co.uk.

Alternatively, supporters can vote in writing, again including their choice of music, name, address and daytime telephone number, to: Goal Music Vote, Media Department, Middlesbrough FC, Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough, TS3 6RS.

The four potential edits can be heard by visiting Boro’s official website at mfc.co.uk. All four were played over the Riverside Stadium PA system on Saturday when Boro host Birmingham City.

All votes must be made by 12 midday next Wednesday (September 15) and supporters are limited to one vote each.

Boro’s Communications Manager Dave Allan said: “We greatly value the opinion of the supporters on all areas of the club and this is no different.

“A previous poll among the fans revealed that 80 per cent of them were in favour of us playing music to celebrate our goals at the Riverside.

“A huge number then responded to our call for suggestions. That long list has now been shortened to just four nominations for the supporters to make their final choice.

“We think all four could potentially work, but it’s the fans who will decide.

“We’ve taken 10-second edits from the four tracks as goal celebration music requires only a short sound-blast. So we’d urge fans to ensure they have heard the edits before they vote, rather than simply choosing their favourite track.”

Last season several different pieces of music were used, including club anthem Pigbag, but now the club is looking for a change as the club begins its first European campaign.

Boro officials have emphasised that the popular Pigbag tune will continue as the club’s run-out music.

Apart from the nominated four, the many and varied suggestions from fans included the Can-Can, Status Quo’s Rockin’ All Over the World, Roll With It by Oasis, Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand, KC and the Sunshine Band’s That’s the Way I Like It, Tom Hawk by the Piranhas, Centrefold by the J Geils Band, Elvis Presley’s A Little Less Conversation, Welcome to the Jungle by Guns ‘n’ Roses, NWA’s Express Yourself, Junior Senior’s Move Your Feet, Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries, Moving on Up by M People, Let’s Get It Started by the Black Eyed Peas, Feel It by The Tamperer and Queen’s We Will Rock You, together with theme tunes from the Banana Splits, Captain Pugwash and the Dambusters.
