Gibson is looking up at Boro

Last updated : 18 March 2010 By Northern Echo

Pledging his commitment to his hometown club, the chairman insists that Boro fans can look ahead to brighter times following the setback of relegation from the Premier League.

The last decade saw Boro secure their first major silverware and finish as runners-up in the UEFA Cup final.

Since Gibson became chairman in 1994 the Teessiders have been FA Cup runners-up and twice League Cup finalists.

Their position outside the Championship play-off positions has not dampened Gibson's belief that the club are ready to emulate the achievements they enjoyed during the most successful period in the club's history.

We can look forward once again with real optimism, he declared. In fact, there is absolutely no reason why we can't repeat our successes of the past decade or so.

Since appointing Strachan as Gareth Southgate's successor last October the chairman has been greatly impressed

by the improvements the Scot has brought to the playing squad, noting his influence over the players extends to their lifestyles off the pitch.

Under Strachan's leadership Gibson reckons Boro fans can look forward to the good times returning to the Riverside.

Gibson said: I have been greatly impressed by the way Gordon has gone about transforming the way the team train, live and prepare for games. I think we have already seen that he is building a team full of steely resolve with players who are committed to working their socks off to achieve their aims.

I know Gordon has the knowledge, experience and calm determination that I firmly believe will ensure brighter times are ahead.

Gibson reaffirmed his loyalty to the club and while he accepted that many fans are undergoing tough financial times he called on them to back their team.

As we look forward, let me assure you that my commitment to Middlesbrough Football Club remains as strong as ever. I am the chairman but first and foremost I am a lifelong Boro fan. I am determined to do all I can, not only to take Middlesbrough back into the Premier League but to continue to punch above our weight, just as we have done for the majority of the past 15 years.

But we need you. We recognise that these are difficult times for many of you but the income generated from season cards is vital to the continued ability to punch above our weight in a sport driven by money. Every spare penny will be invested into developing the team.

Our worst times are behind us and we can all start to look forward to brighter times. Now, more than ever, is a time for club and supporters to unite, he said.

I won't walk away from Middlesbrough Football Club.

It's in my blood. I know it's in yours too. This football club exists for the fans and I can only give the utmost praise to their loyal, passionate support throughout all of our highs and lows.

While the past 12 months have not been the success we all hoped they would be, there is no despondency within the club. In fact, I am convinced we are now ready to bounce back.

Boro freeze season ticket prices MIDDLESBROUGH have announced a price freeze on all Season Cards bought by an Early Bird deadline of April 28.

The prices mean that compared to purchasing tickets match-bymatch during the current campaign, 2010-11 adult and over-65 season card holders will make savings equivalent to nine free games.

With all season cards again priced £95 for under-18s, the saving is for them worth 15 free games, while those aged 18-21 can save between £185 and £320 by purchasing a Season Card in the North West or South West corners.

The prices, which start at £370 adults, £230 over- 65s and £185 18-21s, are available until April 28, after which adult and over-65 prices will increase by £30-£35.

The date for renewals is June 4, before a final price kicks in through to the start of next season. Fans can pay in five interest-free monthly installments.

Those who wish to pay in full can also renew online via the club's mfc.co.uk website, by post, by hand or over the telephone.

Supporters who wish to change seats for 2010-11 should make their renewal application using the form they will receive by post over the next few days.

Supporters who change seats will be issued with a new season card.

All others are advised to retain their Season Cards for 2010-11.

2010-11 application forms should start dropping through the letterboxes of season card holders from the middle of this week.

Application forms for new applicants are available to download from Boro's official website.
