Curtis Fleming and David Murphy have all been involved in Darlington's early pre-season activities and may become permanent features at the club. However, it is believed that other clubs are also thinking of signing up Murphy, the defender released by Boro earlier in the summer.

Quaker's boss David Hodgson has already signed the 22 year-old midfielder Brian Close. Close only made one appearance for Boro, when coming on as a sub in November 2002.

He impressed Hodgson when on loan to Darlington at the end of last season.

The Quakers have also signed the 21 year-old ex-Boro 'keeper Sam Russell. Russell made two appearances for Middlesbrough and was on loan at Scunthorpe for a lengthy period last season.
