Here is a brief round-up:

Group 3
George Boateng could be involved for Holland when they visit group leaders Austria on Wednesday. The Boro midfielder will be hoping to earn his third cap.

Group 5
Allan Johnston was not involved in Scotland’s 2-0 triumph in Iceland. The Scot’s now head the group although Germany and Lithuania, who are second and third, play the Faroe Islands and Iceland respectively, this week. Robbie Stockdale withdrew from the squad late last week with a foot injury.

Group 7
Gareth Southgate and Szilard Nemeth both played 90 minutes on opposing sides as England overcame Slovakia 2-1. Nemeth had given the Slovak’s a first half lead but two second half goals from David Bekham and Michael Owen were enough to earn England the points. Ugo Ehiogu was an unused substitute.

Southgate is expected to start again for England against Macedonia on Wednesday but with a new aprtner at the heart of the defence. Sol Campbell has joined the squad after recovering from a bout of gastoenteritis, which kept him out of the trip to Slovakia.

Group 8
Alen Boksic played the full 90 minutes as Croatia went down 2-0 to Bulgaria in Sophia, leaving Croatia off the pace in the group, with just one point from two games.

Group 9
Massimo Maccarone received a late call-up from Giovanni Trappatoni after Filippo Inzaghi withdrew from the squad, following Italy’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Yugoslavia in Naples. Maccarone would earn his second cap for the Azzurri if he takes part at the Millennium Stadium against Wales on Wednesday.
