Venables is no stranger to Boro having assisted Bryan Robson in the latter days of his reign at the Riverside back in 2001.
He would appear to fit the criteria laid down by Boro chairman Steve Gibson, in that he is English and would would take on board Boro's existing backroom staff.
The Boro supremo is keen to promote the services of Steve Harrison and Steve Round, while he has also stated his wish to keep the experience of Gareth Southagte and Colin Cooper at the club.
Other candidates, such as Martin O'Neill and Sam Allardyce would probably have a clearout and bring in their own people.
The ‘bootroom' mentality has worked wonders for the likes of Liverpool over the years and would maintain some sort on consistency within the club, rather than a new man starting from scratch.
I am sure that many Boro fans would welcome Venables with open arms, and if he is right for the club Gibson will induce him back to the Riverside.
