Brad Jones (ankle) and Gary O’Neil (groin) are the latest additions to the sick list.
The pair missed last night’s 2-2 draw at Oldham Athletic, as did Didier Digard, Mohamed Shawky, Marvin Emnes, Emanuel Pogatetz, Chris Riggott and Matthew Bates.
Southgate: “Grounds, Emnes and Digard will all train today and we’re hopeful we’ll have them available for Saturday.
“Gary O’Neil has a bit of a groin problem so we’ll have to assess that over the next couple of days.
“Brad Jones has injured his ankle in training and we’re waiting for an assessment on that.
“Nothing’s too long-term - obviously it would be good to get a few back in for Saturday at Millwall.
“So far in pre-season our attitude has been good but at Oldham it wasn’t and that’s not acceptable.
“In the Championship, we’re going to have to reach the required standard on Saturday, then midweek, Saturday then midweek, right through the season. We’ve got to go win, win, win. If this had been a league game we would have come away with a point having gone behind, so in a sense I’m pleased with the response, but then having gone 2-1 up we had to see the game through.
“I thought the first half performance was poor, I thought we were second to too many balls. I thought they had a greater hunger for the game and they wanted to beat us. They wanted to roll us over and we were swanning around a bit and were second best to things. We were too slow to move the ball and we were deservedly behind.”
