Robert Huth is on his way after the World Cup, but Gareth Southgate is keen to strengthen his team further and not just in defence.

Doriva maybe the next player out of the door at the Riverside following Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's exit last week. It is believed that the Brazilian will be surplus to requirements if Boro manage to snap up Steed Malbranque or Joey Barton.

Reports suggest that Boro are ready to tempt Manchester City with a £3m bid for Joey Barton, who is not happy at the City of Manchester Stadium, if they fail to land Malbranque.

Aston Villa are keen on Oguchi Onyewu after Boro went cool on a deal for the American international. There has been no further interest in Sochaux's Souleymane Diawara, from Senegal

News this morning indicates that JFH cannot agree terms with Celtic and will look elsewhere for a club.
