Dirty Tricks Redknapp Ready To Tap Downing?

Having said: "Middlesbrough will have loved to see us play extra-time against Manchester United" and "we won't be at our best on Wednesday" ... he has one more trick up his sleeve.

TO UNSETTLE STEWART DOWNING! And he's already started to put the wheels in motion.

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are to resume their pursuit of Downing in the summer.

And Redknapp couldn't have timed it better. But isn't that what he's all about? Sly, under-hand ... and full of shit!

Today's Daily Mirror: "It is thought that Spurs tried to sign the England international during the January transfer window but were turned away despite the 24-year-old handing in a transfer request at the Riverside.

"The north London club have been linked with the Boro star since Martin Jol's reign at White Hart Lane due to their inability to fill the void on the left-wing, where Downing plays.

"Apparently, Tottenham are willing to offer as much as £15 million to prise the Boro boy away from his home-town club at the end of the season.

"It is also speculated that should Spurs manager Harry Redknapp land Downing, it could spell the end of David Bentley's Lilywhites career as he has failed to impress since his £15m transfer from Blackburn Rovers."

A win for the Boro on Wednesday would lift us out of the relegation gloom and dump Spurs in it.

And let's be honest ... would Downing join the Cockney boys if they played Championship football next season?
