The 18-year-old who scored 16 goals in 23 starts for Scottish Third Division champions Livingston relishes the prospect breaking into Gordon Strachan's side.

I'm really excited about joining Middlesbrough and delighted that the contract is now all sorted, said Halliday, who can operate on the left flank or as an additional attacker.

This is a club that has produced so many good youngsters over the years and I just hope I can do well for them. It helps that there is already a big Scottish contingent at the club and I know I am going to feel at home straight away.

I came here for a training week earlier in the season so I was able to see the set-up at first hand. It also gave me the chance to meet the players, so I have a bit of a head start in that respect.

The training ground is just fantastic. It's different class. I came down and stayed at the Rockliffe hotel, where the facilities and food are out of this world. I made up my mind then that I would like to come here.

Halliday joins Boro for an undisclosed fee.
