The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled to command a regular place in the Chelsea squad since moving to Stamford Bridge from Reading last summer and Boro boss is keen to bolster his midfield options for next season.

"Strikers are not a priority for us," Southgate has said.

"That might change at some point, but I wouldn't foresee it.

"I am quite happy with the blend we have got."
