Centre-Back Joins Canaries

The 21-year-old Boro centre-back has moved on loan to the Canaries until 28th April.

Boro have installed a 24-hour recall clause on Bates' loan deal which will begin once he has spent a month on loan at Carrow Road.

A product of the Boro Academy he was a member of the winning FA Youth Cup side in 2004 and has represented England at U-18 level.

Matthew made his first team debut for Boro in December 2004 before a short spell on loan at Darlington.

Last season he started 20 League and Cup games mainly as a centre-half, but he has also filled in at right back.
