Brad Jones and Ross Turnbull - good memories?

Last updated : 18 August 2010 By HiggyBoro

For me it is none, of a positive variety, apart from the bizarre fact that they left for Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively, and we got paid for them, allegedly.

Prior to the embarassment of watching these two, we had Mark Schwarzer's 11 year reign as keeper in chief, playing over 400 games. It made Boro fans start to take him for granted and not appreciate what we had to loose. Now we know.

To my mind Mark's departure signalled the end of an era for the club.

Although, having said that, in his early years, I was highly critical of his performances. But that was not the Mark we let go.

Early impressions were, he could not kick the ball any distance and appeared unable to even keep it on the pitch from his kicks, let alone dominate the box on crosses.

I think I understand why now, one for a future article.

Once he departed, to the fans there was no clear successor.

Jones and the junior Turnbull, were largely unknown. Neither inspired.

Turnbull the better of the two in many fans eyes left, after playing around 30 games, and then went on to feature in European competitions, the CL, with Chelsea. Amazing!

On top of this the other ‘dodgy’, 28 year old Mr ‘Calamity’ Jones, who played around 75 games for Boro whilst never seeming to be a first choice keeper and becoming the butt of the fans anger, it is even stranger that anyone would want his services.

Maybe his move reflects the financial decline at Liverpool?
