Hartlepool finally overcame Tranmere Rovers at around 10:30 on Tuesday night after a penalty shoot out that went to seven penalties for each team. The aggregate score after the two legs (including extra time) was 2-2. With Tranmere 2-0 up and at home after 90 minutes the home side looked to have the edge.

The Pools' hung on in extra time and now face Sheffield Wednesday to determine who will move into the Championship next season. Our best wishes to our nearest neighbours.
