Clough, 42, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal to become Paul Jewell's successor, leaving his post at Blue Square Premier leaders Burton.
His father Brian won the league with the Rams in 1972 and Clough junior is the man charged with trying to bring the glory days back to the club.
Clough will be unveiled to the Rams fans ahead of the Carling Cup clash with Manchester United tonight.
